Native Americans Started with Haplogroup R ? Not Q ?

Nadene Goldfoot
I love this post just sent to me from my Q group!  It has the most interesting information.  We know that our haplogroup is Q1b1a, a Jewish branch of Q.  The Q line is also found in Native Americans, showing that we branched off of it long ago since Q's originated in Siberia, Mongolia and parts of Turkey  about 15,000 to 20,000 years ago.  Q has been the link for Asia and the Americas, found in northern and central Asian populations as well as in Native Americans.  It is thought to have originated in central Asia and migrated through northern Eurasia into the Americas.  So evidently there were more than one Y haplogroup living way back then in these places.

A Russian 4 year old child's remains have been found who lived 24,000 years ago in Asia.  His tests show that he was of the Y haplogroup  R.   R1, which is European, is found a lot in England.  Then again, Egypt claims that King Tut was also an R.  R was thought to have come from NW Asia about 30,000 to 35,000 years ago.  R2 is found only in Indian, Iranian and central Asian populations.  This boy was found to be 30% Western Eurasian.

His Mitrochondrial haplogroup was U, another European line.  U's go back 50,000 years and could have interacted with Neanderthals in Europe.  This was the mtDNA of Cheddar Man.  40%k of Europeans have the clade U5, the most frequent and ancient subcluster of U.  U2 is most common in India and U6 in North Africa.

This brings to mind the following:

41,000  years ago the Denisovan lived, pre-runners of Neanderthals.
38,000  years ago the Neanderthal lived, of which we European origin all bear a % of their genes.
15,000 to 20,000 years ago the Asians crossed the Bering Sea land bridge to get to North America.

Report from Halpern (Heilprin) Rashi/Rabbi of Worms Group on DNA

Halpern and Branches - Results

So far, we have some interesting results. (from 2 leaders of the group).

The G2c haplogroup seems to be most likely to link to the old rabbinic Heilperin family originally from Germany, c. 1500. One man in this group can trace his tree directly back that far, and at least two others with similar surnames match very close to him.

There is another E1b1b1c1a cluster that appears to have originally been from Kurenets, Belarus c. 1700, or even earlier. They may trace to the rabbinic family of this name, since they appear to have gone by "Alper", "Alperovich" and similar names since 1700. Surnames were very uncommon in that time, unless one was from a note family.

There is a small J1 cluster as well, with folks of Austrian, Romanian, and western Ukrainian descent. These folks appear to have had a common origin around 1700, but unlike the E1b1b1c1a case, there is no documentation to prove it.

My own cousin of the Halpern family is J2a4b*, and has no matches in the group. Our family traces to Rabbi Reuven Halpern of Glowno (c. 1760-1816), who was said to have descended from Jehiel Heilperin of Minsk (1660-1746). Some sources say that Jehiel descended from the Heilperins of Germany.

Some folks also appear to be from Q, and other haplogroups.

Clearly, all of these groups can't trace back to the same male along one paternal line, but they might be related to each other via women who passed their famous name onto their husbands and their descendants.

We can conclude that though there is no one clear Halpern clan, there appears to be at least 3 distinct clusters tracing back to about 1700 or even earlier in some cases.
Other folks may be "late adopters" of the surname.

from Nadene:  A Rabbi Yehiel Heilprin was born in Minsk, which was in Belarus, in 1660 and died in 1746, which was later said to be in Russia, but Catherine II caused Jews to live in the Pale of Settlement, which Belarus was in then along with Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, etc.  We Goldfoots match up with Alpert, especially with Joseph Stephen Alpert  whereby matching cM's with David, I, his sister, matched with 74 segments, Sandra matched with 54 segments and Joseph matched with 16 segments.  I would say we might be 3rd to 4th cousins.  Heilprin is another name for Alpert.
